poor season
I have no shame and I like to live my life a little dangerously. My wife said if I ever posted this photo, she would pack her bags and leave me. But she is not in the habit of reading this blog - not very often anyway. So if in the future you find that I am constantly whinning about the lack of clean skivvies and home cooked meals you will know why.
Last summer, I had an epiphany. It is not that we are both teachers and have no income in the summer or that I have way too much time on my hands. Well maybe it is. Mainly I can’t see spending 13 green-bucks for something that lasts about 2 minutes and looks like a full moon in November. The crown of my head is completely bald. I look like an old English friar. Besides, my wife did as good a job as a professional. I told herl where to cut and which size comb accessory to use. Lately, I have been doing the job myself. I don't have a recent photo because it is to hard to hold the clippers and the camera at the same. I am not that coordinated.
I have a few tips for those brave souls among you who want to do this at home:
1. Be careful when you come around the the top of the ears with bare clippers. Any slip or too much pressure, and you will be paying a visit to you local emergency room.
2. Be prepared for the sound of laughter when your friends find out. You will need skin like an alligator and a good sense of humor.
3. You will need to depend on your loved ones to tell you how it looks in the back. Be very careful because they may lie to you and tell you it is fine to increase the laughter from your friends. See tip #2.

For a few years now I've been going for buzz cuts (Keeps the gray at bay, at least to my eyes). After a couple of trips for this style, I decided to do the job myself. Once in a while I miss a patch and forget to ask my family to look. The kids in school let me know. (Do they ever miss anything?)

Oh lord. Somebody just hold me.

I was as vain about my hair as Fonzie of Happy Days fame for a long time and when my family curse kicked in (male pattern baldness) the old comb-over served me well for a long time. No one was being fooled by it except myself.
Finally, there was not enough hair left on my head to continue paying a barber to cut. I bought myself some clippers and used the wife's makeup mirror to see the back of my head (didn't trust my family to tell me the truth.)
I've saved a fortune in haircut costs since then. I like to step outside on the patio...hang my mirror from the outside light by the edge of the door on a windy day, plug my clipper into the outside outlet and let the hair float away on the breezes.
Then, I take two disposable razors into the shower with me and finish the job. I do like being able to wash my hair with a wash-cloth for a few weeks. I look much younger too since I've gone to a clean-shaven face and head all at the same time. Trimming around the ears is no longer a concern for me either.
Bald IS beautiful IMHO

If you have a digicam you can just take a shot of the back of your head yourself. Easier than using a mirror, and you don't need to depend on the opinion of others :-)
This is to replace tip number three.

Stu: Yes my friend you are absolutely right. But you see there is no fool like an old fool and I like depending on my love ones. I just have to be cautious in some situations.
Euclid: thanks for your take on the hair cutting situation and your right about kids not missing anything. They can be so cruel can't they?
Clarence: Sounds like you have it down to a fine tuned procedure.
poopie: Hold you? Why did you fall down?

nice image, young man.
i did my own haircutting thru the 70's & 80's, on those occasions when it was absolutely required for employment, and when employment was absolutely required. never did understand the basic point of the exercise though.
